2003 2.4 no compression

Default 2003 2.4 no compression
car was running then one day puff of smoke from exhaust and car died. now it has no compression on all cylinders. timing belt appears to be on the marks. what else could cause this problem

How did you determine that? Your symptoms describe a broken timing belt, probably with valve damage.

Default 2003 2.4 no compression
I took the plastic cover off and looked at the timing marks and also the engine turns over and the cams turn and the no.1 piston is up at the top when the marks line up but no compression
