Question 2005 Sebring died - won't turn over-only clicking sound!

2005 Sebring Sedan died at exit traffic light after one hour highway trip. Won't turn over - only rapid clicking sound! No engine codes on diagnostics. Someone mentioned crankshaft position sensor? Help! I am elderly female. Not a mechanic. Saving money to take to shop but want to know what I might expect.

How old is the battery? The usual cause for "only clicking sound" is a weak battery. That will be the first thing to check. If that proves not to be the problem then they will look for a bad connection (corrosion) between the battery and the starter. Those things should be checked first and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Sorry it wasn't battery. Had it towed to shop. Timing belt. Since it's a non-interference motor, no damage to pistons or valves. Valves lined up ok, thank goodness. $800. They did water pump too.
Thank you for your reply. Now I'm selling car! I love that car!
