Default 2007 TPMS Question

Hi, I'm driving an '07 Sebring Limited. I have the stock 18" tires for summer and some 17s for the winter (they're less expensive). The TPMS works well with the summer tires. The problem is I have a second set of sensors mounted in my winter tires but my EVIC displays "Check TPM system" at startup. The dealer tells me "the system knows the sensors are there, but can't tell them apart".

My question is: Is it possible that the EVIC system is having trouble reading the sensors because they are mounted on smaller rims?

This isn't such a huge problem. I can live with it, but prefer not to. Any insight anyone might have would be appreciated.

Does your spare tire have a TPM Sensor in it? If so it may be confusing the TPM computer.
