Default auto dimming mirror

I have a 2000 Sebring JXi Convertible with the auto dimming mirror. The problem is the "auto dimming" is dieing. It has been slowly going away until all that is left of the chromatic finish is a strip about an inch high and three inches long in the middle of the mirror. Has anyone seen this before?

Default RE: auto dimming mirror

It started about three months ago. I noticed around the edge of the mirror there was about a 1/16" area that was not dimming when someone came up behind me with there headlights on. I had just had the car detailed and wondered if the guy used a cleaner on the plastic mirror housing that got on the glass. Ever since then the chromatic (blue) dimming has been getting smaller and smaller. It still responds when someone comes up behind you with their lights on, just the area has shrunk to about an inch by three inches. It is very strange. I have never seen anything like this. Before I spend several hundred for a new mirror I am trying to do a little research.
