Default Blown speakers in 2001 Sebring Convertible

I have put 4 pair of speakers in my wifes convertible. Last set was 400 watt Kenwood 4 ohm, I tried Pioneer, Blauplunk, Kenwood. AM I missing something? It has the Infinity system 4 disc CD. I believe the original speakers were 2 ohm. She does like to crank it up but still I wouldn't think it would blow these speakers. The pioneers had the entire outside cone gone. Could the amp be distorting causing it. Does it have a seperate power amp? Should I put a power amp in it? A friend suggested a subwoofer to help take the bass away from the other speakers. The system has 2 6x9s in the doors and 2 in the back.

The 4 sets of speakers you have trashed, 400 watts? That must be the PEAK rating (that number is fiction). You are mainly concerned with the RMS rating.
You are correct about the factory speakers at 2 ohms.
Did you cross your speaker wires? - to + ?
The amp is located under the passenger seat.
The system is JUNK...Remember Chrysler sells cars, not stereos.
The lowest bidder got the contract to put the alleged UPGRADE SYSTEM in these cars.

Do your wife a favor, junk the Infinity system.

I have an '01 Limited. I trashed the Infinity system and went with

Pioneer Head Unit DEH-P7400HD
2 - Kicker IX500.4 Amp
Rockford Fosgate Punch 1693 (Rear 1/4's)
CDT Audio ES06 Mid Woofer (Door)
CDT Audio ES02 Tweeter (Dash)
CDT Audio Up5100i Upstage Image Tweeter (Windshield)
CDT Audio EX-550i Crossovers

Not sure what kind of budget you have to work with. The above set-up will run you about $1800.00.

Do some homework, shop around. Give a call to SonicElectronics. I have bought plenty of stuff from them. I deal with a guy named John, extention 2499. He is very informative and EXTREMELY helpful.

Good Luck.

First post.. if you are running 4ohm speakers on a 2 ohm system you are basicly making them run 2X as hard to produce the same volume.. hence they dont sound like they are working hard, but they are..

As for the chrysler Infinity system, its really not that bad for a stock "high end" system and unless your "junk" is small and you need to impress, or are in contests or want to be deaf after 40 replacing the speakers with some 2Ohm ones of anyting tht inst no name should solve your problems. infinity (suprise) and JBL both have 2ohm speakers in ther retail line.. Ihave had good luck with Infinity stuff, no real comment on JBL, there was a time in the past they where pretty good, today???? no idea.

and as for the Upgraded setup.. all quality stuff for sure.. but a bit of money considering KBB on our old sebrings is about double the cost.

Funny, the reason Im here is my Sebring (96) with infinity system has one working speaker.. was wondering if this was common or? I have a 97 van with the infinity system and its all working well still .
