Default Which brand timing belt?

I'm getting ready to do the timing belt, tensioner and water pump replacement and wanted to know which brand of belt I should use. Gates, Dayco, or what?

Whatever the parts department at the dealer sells you.....

This isnt a wiper blade, or a lightbulb. It is a crucial part of your engine. dont scrimp on this one.

I may be pushing the envelope a bit here...But that goes for the Pump as well.

Wiper blade or light bulb it isn't for sure. In an interference engine it is ultra critical. This is why I want to know the very best belt to use.

I bought OEM, Aisin and Gates parts when I had to get a timing belt replaced on a Subaru once. According to other drivers I know and mechanics I trust those are quality brands/products.

The thing of it is though... once you know what part numbers of a particular brand to purchase you can look around: dealers, online, etc. Prices can be very different. Of course, if you buy a part online that does not fit your particular car... then it can be little challenging. Local stores are easier to work with from that perspective. I guess depends on how much time you have and what you want to spend. I get 25%-50% savings online vs local stores regularly.

Hope that helps.

Its funny you should mention Subaru. That was My EXACT basis for OEM Timing belts. Bought 3 different belts, but I couldnt get the marks to line up with the "WHITE STRIPES" on the belt. After much frustration..I walked across the street to the subaru dealer and bought a belt. It was about 20 dollars more than I paid elsewhere, but It was on the car perfectly first try, in less time than it took me to walk and get it. After that incident..I will NEVER use an aftermarket belt again. on anything.

Since the OP was specifically asking about the belt... I did use Subaru OEM timing belt then. Everybody recommended it over aftermarket alternatives except maybe Gates which was comparable if not the actual manufacturer of some Subaru belts. I had no idea that Subaru belts had MOPAR applications though!
