Question Cabin Filter retractable string

Today while replacing the Cabin Filter in my 2014 200 Limited Convertible I noticed a tab(sting) just to the right of the cabin filter opening. Prior to replacing the filter I viewed on U Tube a gentleman showing how to do it and where it was located. At the end of the video he reached up and pulled the string and turned it loose. It retracted automatically but he did not mention what it was for or what it did. Can someone please tell me what is the purpose of this retractable string?
Thank you in advance, Bill

Thank You! Now I guess I need to take the door off and see how it is attached.

Everyone should change cabin air filter time to time but usually as per my observation in my surrounding I found that most them decline to changer it. I wanna say just try it n hope will get extreme level of output.

Which can surprise you! !!

I am sure that the amount of dirt trapped by the cabin air filter is dependent on where you live and driving conditions. Paved road, dirt road, hiway or city but I will say the house a/c filters gets dirtier in 60 days than the Chrysler cabin filter has since purchased in Feb 2014, with right at 50,000 miles on her.
