Chrysler 200 bad stuttering in park and in gear.
So this started this morning. 2016 200 44k mikes on her. No check engine light. Code reader showing nothing. Very weird jumping/ stuttering. First thought was the trans, but even in park with foot off the brake the engine feels like it’s not getting a spark jumps, is ok for 2-5 seconds and jumps again. Does this randomly while driving. I watched the RPM’s and can’t find a correlation. Seems like it does this at random. Only constant is in park it always does this, and at a stoplight in gear it does as well. Any ideas? I bought used and don’t have warranty unfortunately. I think it has something to do worth the engine not getting spark, as you can hear the exhaust sputter in park. I’m no mechanic, just looking for some help before I dish out serious money
I can't believe that with the engine misfiring there would be no codes. A misfire causes the engine RPM to vary, even if only by a little that wouldn't show up on the tach. The engine computer would sense that and would determine which cylinder is misfiring. That would leave a code. It may or may not turn on the Check Engine Light. Try taking it an auto parts store and asking if they can hook up their code reader. If you did that already, try a different store.
Might also want to look at the engine while this is going on to make sure that it's not moving around due to a broken engine mount. (Not likely.)
