Default Engine Swap
I have a 2006 2.4l Sebring motor is knocking can I swap it out with a 2005 model or 2004 2.4l with the same vin code 8th digit vin X? or do I have to use same year?

Somewhere in along in there Chrysler changed the engine. I don't know exactly what or when but I'd look for an engine as close to yours as possible. Keep yours handy in case you need to swap out parts.
