Default HELP my door doesnt stay closed !!!

I hope someone can help , i have a 1996 Sebring convertible and my driver side door doesnt close, it hasnt dropped, and it appears that when i close the door the door latch doesnt lock. I tired Lithium grease to try and loosen it up but it still doesnt lock like the passanger side. I have to slam the door several times before it catches and some times when i think it catches i just pull the handle and it opens. , please tell me there is a simple fix , the dealer wants 100$ to diagnose the problem and if it is the latch 400$ to replace it , ugh Please can someone give me a suggestion , or where can i buy a latch aftermarket ??? Thank you

Your car is pretty old so I bet you could find another one in a junk yard of the same color and either get the whole door or just get a latch from a junk yard. I'm sure they wont care if you ask to go test some latches.

You might try some WD-40 into the latch to see if it will free it up. If not, the replacement latch from a junkyard may be the cheapest way to go.
