Question need advice please! 04 sebring sedan

All of a sudden, I am having trouble getting my car to go in reverse. When I put it in reverse, I have to hit the gas pedal a lot harder than normal then it finally "lunges" backward. It "sputters" in reverse also. (I probably didn't describe this well) Anyway my question is: is the trans going? Any input would be appreciated.
