So I just got a 96 sebring lxi and there are a couple issues I need to address before putting it on the road. First off I was told it stalls while driving but runs great. I've read a ton about this problem and I'm guessing it would be the crank position sensor? The car ran perfect for me however I didn't go very far in it. Great power and throttle response so I can't see it a fuel problem. Any ideas?
Next is the starter making a grinding sound after car starts up. I plan to replace it but I'm just curious to know if it's causing any internal damage?

Before you start throwing parts at it, see if there are any codes stored in the computer. Not all code will turn on the check engine light, so try the key dance (on, off, on, off, on). You don't start the car in this, just turn the key to the on position. Codes, if any, will show up in the odometer area.

If the starter is slow to disengage, it could hurt the teeth on the flywheel. That's a big repair requiring removal of the transaxle.

Invest in a Haynes manual so you can decide what sort of repairs are within your capabilities.
