Passenger Seat Loose

Passenger Seat Loose
We have an '08 Sebring Convertible. When we bought the car (used), both front seats had a little "give" in them, front to back or back to front, depending on whether you are braking or accelerating....maybe 1/2". I pulled the seats, but could not find anything "loose" on the rails, or a cause. After re-installing the seats, the drivers' seat is (magically) fixed, but the passenger seat still shifts just slightly front to back or vice versa. It is annoying. I can't find a cause. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Update: I pulled the passengers seat again and took a good look at the mechanism. There is a threaded "worm gear" shaft that is driven by the motor, but it is inside the housing that attaches to the seat. I still see nothing I can get at to eliminate the play in this seat. Open to any ideas out there, since many of you are much more experienced than I in the mechanics of this car.

If the movement is of the screw itself, then you may be able to remedy the problem by replacing the drive unit including the screw. If the screw does not move with respect to the motor, then the problem is elsewhere in the seat support mechanism. With the seat out, try to pinpoint where the movement is.

Thank you DCotter for the thought. With the seat out, the worm screw does move. The thought you have given me, is whether I can tell if the gear on the motor moves as well - I don't know the answer to that, so that is something I need to look at. I don't have the seat out now, but I will check that. I don't recall if there is a way to get to to or see the connection between the worm screw and the motor gear. It certainly is a likely point to check. As far as replacing the worm gear and motor.....not so easy. The worm screw is literally buried in the lower frame of the seat mount. When I had the seat out, I didn't see a simply way to get at the worm screw.
Thank you for the thought!
