Default testing distributor cap

this will sound stupid but here goes anyway. testing distributor cap on 2.5 v6 sebring, should there be continuity from the center button to the post that goes into the coil? seems that there should be continuity for the spark to travel to each cylinder. been out of the field for some time so plz bear with me.

One is fact - from center pin to all pins inside the cap resistance must be same. Second - the should be no continuity. Center pin of the cap goes to rotor. as the rotor turns it relies the spark to inside pins and they transfer the spark to hi voltage wire.
