2.7L V6 Question
Hoping that someone can provide some insight into the sludge issues with the 2.7L V6 engine. Is there a recommended oil change frequency, oil change type/brand or additive that can help to prevent the sludge buildup? I watched a video on YouTube that recommends JilCat Proline Gas Engine Conditioner. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

The 2.7l sludging problem is mostly related to the pcv system (note there are some that will take issue with this cause). There were running changes made in the system from 2001 to 2004. The issue was pretty much resolved during the 2003 model year with 2004 being fully resolved. It is noted on a number of chrysler forums that using synthetic seems to significantly reduced sludging for the 2001 and 2002 model years and changing the oil before 6K miles. If using conventional oil, 3K miles would be tops for an oil change.
Note I had a 2004 2.7l with 240K miles, using synthetic and changing around 8k miles. Only motor issue I had was the water pump needing to be replaced at 135K miles. Tech noted the motor was very clean under the timing chain cover.

Pretty close GGoose but in this matter of the 2.7 the early builds had smaller oil passages which the API grade GF1 was not working well in them SO in 2002 the new grade GF2 fixed the restriction flow in the smaller oil passages in the 2.7 area. Other automakers had the same kinda issues with the grade GF1 oil there for there was an industry standard change to correct that issue. Now we are up to GF5. SO unless you just dont change you oil at all the sludging issues is pretty much gone away.

should be where it says API thats the grading system look slike GF5 is now gone may of 2020 GF6 now
