I have a 99 300m with 130K on it and I was driving home today and my car started acting up. The speedometer stopped working and it only runs in second gear. In the "drive" position, you can tell it starts in 2 and won't shift. If you put it in the auto-stick position, it starts out in second and won't go to 1, 3, or 4. Sometimes it will stall out completely.

A couple days before, all the lights kept flashing when the car was off. Head lights, tail lights, dash lights, everything would keep flashing. I ran it for a while and it stopped.

I thought it might be something electrical but who knows. Any ideas? Thanks.

 

I have something like this happen a few years ago and it ended up being a computer chip for the transmission.

 

do u have a check engine light and have codes for 1-4th gear ratio error?

 

this just happened to my 99 300m last night. did you ever find out exactly what it was? woukld save alot of work and searching to find the problem. love my car and never had a problem till now. had always bee shifting fine and boom now this.
