Continuing Saga of MDS issues.
Hello I am starting a new thread because my old thread had over 11000 views. I recently took a vehicle to the shop again, again, again. I wanted to repeat that because I feel like it is groundhog day over and over again. I had a new engine long block installed at a Chrysler Dodge dealership in 2022.
Of course I might be recalling wrong due to being a senior citizen perhaps.
Point being I do not think this engine ever for any length of time ran smoothly. I was told by the dealership that it has a rough idle. Well a rough idle turned into stalling while reversing out of a parking lot or when I was moving really slowly. The dealer replaced either the crank or cam sensor which did stop the stalling. At times the car ran perfectly as in almost telepathic throttle response. Then it would act like I was running on a few cylinders. Think of a car with a bad cam of several fouled plugs or missing plug wires. I have had the car in to shop multiple times for this. They replaced a lot of components. I will not list them all for brevity purposes. Then they said the technician determined I needed new catalytic converters. This they assured me was the issue. No need to mention the cost as you probably are aware of the replacement costs involved.
I took the car into the dealership in early February. It has been there ever since.
I am a senior citizen with arthritis and heart issues. You can imagine why I would need dependable transportation. I picked up the car and the engine light was still on. I should not have even driven the car home. I figured it might clear or at least not have the exact same symptoms. The codes indicated a problem with the MDS cylinder six. There were multiple P3442 p3445 P441 if I recall right. All these codes indicate an issue with the Solenoid not operating properly. There were also a couple codes of p0300 and P0303 I think. These are random misfire codes. The strangest thing about this is like I mentioned earlier it at times runs absolutely perfectly. So I did a lot of research and I passed some of this research on to the dealership.
The research indicates about 4 possible problems. Wiring, bad solenoid itself, PCM or ECM issues. I watched a video to dig into the issue and I see the environment that exists where the wiring harness lives is a hostile one. Due to the intermittent off and on symptoms I am inclined to think it might be a wiring issue. Bottom line between me and my lifetime Maxcare warranty a lot of work has been done. I have put a lot of money in the car myself. New tires, new pads and rotors all around and as I said new catalytic converters. The codes have been consistent all along indicating a problem with the MDS system. All my research indicates this also. The symptoms of misfiring and not running properly and poor performance all indicate a problem with the above mentioned list. I have looked at this from many different angles and they all point to either wiring or the solenoids themself. The engine was a remanufactured unit provided by MVP. I assume the MDS solenoids came with the long block. I also asked if the MDS wiring harness was replaced when the new engine was installed. I have not received an answer on that yet.
You can not imagine how much of a headache this has been. That is unless like others I have read about or watched videos about that have had similar issues.I am hoping after all the work that has been done they will replace the wiring as I have seen some wires that definitely need to be replaced. If you have a vehicle purchased in 2007 with the maximum care lifetime warranty all wiring harnesses are covered. Please discuss among yourselves and please share your ideas. I have heard a lot but do not mind hearing more.

update****Hello, it looks like you are dealing with mechanical issues and what I am about to mention is a wiring issue but I figure this is an active thread so I would like to share in the hopes of ideas and suggestions. I have been dealing with a misfiring stalling issue off and on for a couple years. The dealership has replaced a lot of parts so I am not really that disappointed in the new additions. My problem is the dealership did not possibly really understand what the issue was. I have made some progress lately. They found a bad connection in the wiring harness that runs from my PCM to my MDS system. They said they pushed the plug together and it clicked like it had not been property seated or connected before. I had a new long block assembly installed through my Lifetime Maxcare warranty. The engine has always had a bit of a rough idle. ****** I have read that to get the amount of horsepower and torque out of this engine it needs to have a little bit of a hot cam, thus the slightly rough idle. I read that in the car and driver magazine as I recall. Well the engine also stalls again which it did in the past. It does this while idling in park or drive. It starts right back up and runs ok after this. I have new code which is P0688 and old repeating codes of P 4441 P4449 P4442 and p3449 these all have to do with my MDS system and the P0688 is the ASD relay not getting the proper power. I have replaced both catalytic converters and the PVC and a crank or cam sensor as I recall. I should say the dealership did the replacing and the installing of the long block assembly. The strangest part of this is the car would run fine for a week or so between the cutting out while under hard throttle. I have been babying it after being without my car from February till May of this year. I am a senior citizen with a lot of health issues and not having my car is a bit of a fix for me. MY car has about 40 thousand miles on the new engine at this time. It has run better this time around. I plan on taking it back to the shop again after a trip out of town. I believe this is a wiring issue due to the intermintantness of it. This was borne out by the fact the wiring was not connected properly. It seems to be better since they found the bad connection. I picked the car up after installing the catalytic converters and the engine light was still on and it had the exact same symptoms it had before. I immediately returned the car to the dealership and that is when they found the bad connection between my PCM and the MDS wiring harness. It has run better since then but as I said earlier has begun to stall again. Seems like a very strange situation to me. I suggested they replace the wiring harness and maybe the PCM ECM and the ASD perhaps. They will have to do a diagnostic of course and take pictures and send them into MVP for approval. I am hoping this eliminates the issues. The good thing is it has been doing much better but I am definitely not satisfied with the situation. Thanks for any suggestion and thoughts.
