If you are still online what are the OEM part numbers for those side panels.I am unable to blow up your photos well enough to read them. I have the same issues in my '17 sport

That will work and the slight depression from the wood block will self heal with some sun cycles. I did a similar repair on my door panels however I used BLACK 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive. On the door panels there is room for some small staples along the bottom edge also.
