Default Front Brake question

I've done my own brakes for decades so no problem with the mechanical aspect. Lately I've noticed excess brake dust only on the front right wheel. I figured that maybe I have a caliper seized or seizing. I pulled it apart today to check, cleaned and relubed the sliders. They were fine. I'm close do due to replace everything anyway, but is it possibly the piston dragging? I've never seen this before. It drives and brakes fine, smooth and straight. Before I replace pads and rotors should I go ahead and order calipers too?

is the pad thickness any different from the other side ? if not then no a caliper is not doing anything.

I thought of that very question as well, but had limited time on Saturday so only looked at the RF. I'll check the LF shortly.

Strange. I replaced the front rotors and pads this weekend. I cleaned and lubed the caliper slides. All were in good condition, yet the right front pads were nearly worn out while the left side were well over 50% remaining. It has always been driving and braking straight. Having the wheels off gave me a chance to clean them really well, so hopefully whatever was going on is behind me now. I also noted that the right rotor was noticeably more worn than the left.

It is possible the flexible brake hose is collapsing internally and not allowing the caliper to fully release.

Good Insight. Now that I've replaced the goods and the wheels are clean, I'll watch for brake dust. If there is still a differential, then I may need to replace the brake lines.

You basically answered the question you asked me and I told you the answer but yet your still coming to the same conclusion.

1 is the pad thickness any different from the other side ? if not then no a caliper is not doing anything.
2 Yes they are "Strange. I replaced the front rotors and pads this weekend. I cleaned and lubed the caliper slides. All were in good condition, yet the right front pads were nearly worn out while the left side were well over 50% remaining"
3 The answer "
is the pad thickness any different from the other side ? if NOT then no a caliper is not doing anything."
If they are different thickness then yes a caliper issue.

One of the complaints about this board is that seldom do people report back in about what they found, thus my explanation. Should I not respond in the future?

Don't sweat it Capt. You did well and I for one really appreciate it. I suspect I'm one of many too.

I have noticed that some folks come across in the written word as critical . Sort of an "I told you so" vibe when they are merely trying to be affirmative. Me thinks Chrysler Tech may be one of these. He has been most generous with his help and expertise but sometimes caustic.

I am sorry guys I dont sugar coat issues or the explanation of things. Cars don't car about your feelings lol. Either they are broke or working that's all.
I also kinda dont like repeating myself especially if its typed , when you can go back and read it until you got it..

If the brake pads on both sides driver and passenger are the same thickness then no not a caliper issue. That's what I said.
So this is just logical thinking . You said "the right front pads were nearly worn out while the left side were well over 50% remaining" Which means what?
You have a caliper issue on the right side. That's why I answered you basically answered you own question to why you have more dust on one side then the other..
