Help . Wont start /over heated havent sat and cranked on it tho
So i went to the bank at work earlier i took the interstate on the way there it was fine on the way back as i took the exit to my road i stopped at a red light when the light turned green i felt my car feel weird powerwise amd heard the engine make the sound like when its over heating kinda like a ratteling sound so i looked at the dash my temp gauge was dropped completley down to C and the emblem with the ( lighting bolt) was on. It was a down hill shot to my work so i threw it into neutral and shut it off and coasted rest of the way to work. I tried turning it back over after i shut it off and nothing. After i coasted into worked im pretty sure it sounded like collant was boiling but didnt have time to chek it as work was busy tho it still Wouldnt start.
Anyways i had about two hours of work left it sat the whole time. When i got off work i turned the key and at first it kind of hesitated like when ur car has a low battery and you try to start it but it only lasted like a second then fired up. I DID NOT SIT AND CRANK AND CRANK THE STARTER. So i live about 5 miles from home but theres traffic so it takes a little time stopping and going. THE TEMP GAUGE WAS WORKING NOW AND THAT DASHLIGHT WAS OFF. anyways half way home the temp gauge was where its suppose to be okay it was fine then on the last half of my trip home when i accelorated the temp gauge would go up i would let of the gas or put it in neutral and it would drop back down. I took it slow and coasted when i could. As i pulled on to my road the temp gauge finally shot up to H and my temp warning light came on Lighting bolt light wasnt on tho. So i parked it at home let it sit. I kept smelling something. So after it sit a little bit i went and put water in it maybe its low even tho i just had a collant exchange. After that i started it let it idle for prob 10 mins reved it up and everything seemed fine. Anyways i figured i would go get a thermostat anyways. So i asked my friend to follow me to the part store so i could see if it was over heating. So anyways we pull out the drive way and for some reason i put it in neutral and shut the car off and tried re starting it but nothing lights come on its getting power and everything but starter seemed dead.
So i took starter of tested it on a batterey it was engaging but wouldnt spin i took it apart seems like a piece was broken off in the back not sure what is was.
BASICALLY I WAS JUST TELLING YOU WHAT HAPPEND TODAY IM NOT WORRRIED ABOUT THE STARTER IM GETTING A NEW ONE TOMORROW. WHAT MY PROBLEM IS. IS IM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY IT OVER HEATED AND THEN STARTER WENT OUT BASICALLY AT THE SAME TIME I WASNT CRANKING AND CRANKING IT OR NOTHING. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT WOULD MAKE THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE STARTER AND OVER HEAT? OR WAS IT JUST A COINSIDECNE OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT THAT THEY BOTH HAPPENED ?
I WONT KNOW IF ADDING COLLANT STOPED THE OVER HEATING UNTIL I GET STARTER IN MORNING JUST WANT SOME INSIGHT.
THANKS GUYS 😁

Well over heating it could cause the engine to lock up. If you have a breaker bar something long put it on tbe crank bolt and try and turn the engine over by hand if you can't it's locked up. As for tbe over heating coolant leak is likely the issue where I can't say need to have it pressure tested .
