what is the rear battery for since there is one under the hood i was just wondering

there is only one and it is in the rear what u see up front is for jumping off the car.

Yeah, the front one you thought was a battery is just the terminal. The box actually holds fuses and relays for fan control, etc. Read your owners manual.
