No it was a straight swap out with the bulbs. The eom ones have that blue cover thing on them so no idea how they got them to how red. It's probably a red plastic opaque piece that gave it that color. I think the led ones just over power it. It's a lot brighter than any other back lights on any of the controls.

Hey Thanks for the great info, I have the exact same problem. Been looking on Ebay and can't seem to find those T5 bulbs, do you have any other info on the bulb, or supplier? None of the T5's I've seen have the same base.

This is the one I ended up getting. Just remember not to twist them in all the way. Just enough for them to lock into position or else if you twist all the way the connections won't line up
