Default heater a/c control head problems

My 2007 Aspen has 49,000 miles on it and the right side of the heater a/c ATC control head does not illuminate. Anyone else have this problem and if I pull it out can I repair it myself? The dealer says the whole unit must be replaced (no warranty of course for $338. Please let me know..thanks

ok, ..
are we discussing Backlighting, or "display" on an Auto temp control.....

Typically, they cannot be dissasembled for repair, and tru the entire unit is replaced,

I have found several siyuations where a bit of Patience, and a solderng Iron will remedy a lighting issue like yours..But be warned, I have also seen them NEVER work again after being taken apart.....

That all has to be weighed between your wallet, your ability, and how much it really matters to you that it doesnt light up.

Djinn, is this a common problem? I notice some of the green lighting on my auto a/c unit is turning white - not the display itself, but the backlighting behind the buttons. Maybe it's always been that way and I'm just now noticing...

Yeah, unfortunately, . If you do alot of night driving, with the dash and controls on max, The GREEN "OVERLAY" will tend to fade from the heat of the bulbs
.

You can buy replacement bulbs on EBay. Just find a Chrysler\Mopar microfiche and find the HVAC control and they list the bulb part number.

Default Solution found!!!

I've had this problem almost since I bought my Aspen hemi limited at 114k. I tried fuses, key turns, battery resets..ONE THING almost always (95% of the time) works...
start at HIGH in climate control, press both zones at same time to go to LOW. Once you hear it engage the cold side, press both zones at same time but this way go back up to HIGH. The system will then engage heat, and you should be nice and toasty. I swear this works. 221k on my hemi limited. Heat is cranking with the climate control problem, and vice versa to engage ac/cold side. Hope this finally helps everyone I know what a pain freezing in your truck at 5 am is. Namaste!
