Question about Tow Packages
Hi, new to the forum and could use some help.
Im looking to buy a low mileage fully loaded aspen. I've noticed that some have tow hooks and some do not. I researched and found that there is a "towing package 2" offered. Apparently, comes with skid plate, tow hooks, and 3.92 gears.
I found a nice one online in Florida on Autotrader and it had the tow hooks. But, in the description it said it had 3.55 gears. Is that a screw up on the description? Is it safe to assume that if the Aspen has tow hooks that it automatically has the 3.92 gears? Are the only Aspen.s with 3.92 gears ones with the tow hooks?
thanks for any help

I have a 2008, and for that model year, tow hooks were included with the "skid plate group", which was part of the "trailer tow group" if you have a 4x4 model. In other words, if you see tow hooks on the front of the vehicle, it should have both the "trailer tow group" and be 4x4 (and have the "skid plate group", of course).
The 3.92:1 axle ratio was included with the "trailer tow group", but only when equipped with the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine. Otherwise, you get the 3.55:1 axle ratio with the smaller engine, even if you have the tow hooks.
So the one you found on Autotrader has the 4.7L engine, but must be a 4x4. This assumes the option groups are the same across model years, or that you're looking at a 2008.

This varies on your motor size, transmission, axle ratio and if it's 2WD or 4WD. Max trailer capacity can be between 5850 lbs to 8950 lbs. The receiver hitch is a class IV.

Well, you didn't list your axle ratio. So that makes a difference as well.
If you have the 3.55 axle: Max trailer tow is 7250. (GCWR = 12500)
If you have the 3.92 axle: Max trailer tow is 8750. (GCWR = 14000)
***UPDATE***
Just read that with the tow group package on the 5.7, you should have the 3.92 gears. Mind you this is based on you having the Trailer Tow Group package which includes a transmission cooler.

I've read through so many of these tow related topics, and the axle ratio has me baffled. I have an 07 with the 5.7, tow package (AHC) and heavy duty service group (ADJ). but I have the 3.55 axle ratio (DMD) according to my build sheet.. most people are saying that the above packages come with the 3.92 axle.. but mine doesn't.. so not sure what my capacity is.. I purchased this gas hog just so I could tow my RV, lol... so we'll see how it goes.. just an observation.
