Question Towing with 07 Aspen

Got a 4.7L V8 4x4 2007 aspen without a hitch installed. When I asked Chrysler for data sheet this is what they said:
"This vehicle is rated to tow trailers up to 2,000 lbs (907 kg) without
added equipment or alterations to the standard equipment. Gross Vehicle
Weight Rating = 6,625 lbs.

NOTE: This vehicle was not equipped for safe towing of trailers weighing
over 2,000 lbs (907 kg) as this vehicle was not equipped from the
factory with the optional Trailer Tow Prep Package."
WAIT! WHAT! I thought I could tow almost 9,000 lbs once I got a hitch, etc on.

Can I tow more once I get my class 3 hitch installed?

I believe properly equipped the towing is less than 9K.. it's only 8950 with my OEM towing package and the 5.7L.. But I believe with a class 3 or 4 hitch installed as well as the proper wiring kit, AND a transmission cooler you should be able to tow a considerable amount more than 2K lbs. Not sure what else is included in the "Factory installed towing package", other than possibly the anti-sway integrated with the ESC button.. I am sure more knowledgeable members will correct me if I am incorrect..

good luck

From what I'm reading, the trailer tow group included the class IV hitch, 4 pin and 7 pin wiring harness, 3.92 axle ratio with the 5.7L and heavy duty service group. Heavy Duty service group includes the transmission cooler and power steering cooler.

Since you do not have the Trailer tow group package, you probably do not have the transmission cooler or the 3.92 gears. Which play a big role in your towing ability. So with that, according to the specs I have, your max trailer towing should be 5850. GVWR should be 6700 and a GCWR of 11000.

So you may not be able to tow 9000 lbs, but you should be able to tow more than 2000.
