What happens if you overfill your differential?
I pulled the cover off my 2007 Aspen differential (5.7L w/ 3.92 ratio with tow package – not sure this is relevant but figured I would add it to the thread). I cleaned and reinstalled it. Thinking (perhaps naively) that I was to refill the diff until the gear oil began to weep out of the fill hole, I began to fill it. After almost 3 quarts, it didn’t weep and I was out of fluid. I did the math based on what was left in the 3 one quart bottles and it appears I squirted in around 90 ounces (2.8125 quarts).
I am not sure how much I should have put in but some searches say 70 ounces - duh, I found this after I was surprised nearly 3 quarts did not make it weep out the fill hole.
How much should I have put in?
What might be my problem if I leave in the 90 ounces?
Thanks.

Update – issue corrected:
Next day after:
The computer of one of my local auto parts store reads that an 8.25 ring gear model takes 2.2 quarts and a 9.25 ring gear model takes 2.25 quarts. I was looking for a cheap siphon and the store was sold out. I went down the street to the next parts store and their computer read 2.22 quarts for both 8.25 and 9.25 ring gear models.
I found my cheap siphon at the second store ($2.99) brought it home and began the process of siphoning out 20 ounces of fluid.
This was an aggravating mistake (over-fill) that I will not make again.

I looked up on the Amsoil site and confirmed it should be 4.4 pints (2.2 quarts) for the rear differential on the 2007. This is interesting as it is only 4 pints (2 quarts) for the same 9.25 gears on my 2008. However, the 2008 also has to have 4 oz (.24 pints) of Mopar Limited Slip Additive so I guess that makes up the difference.

This begs the question Is the 2008 diff different than the 2007? My manual says nothing about "Limited Slip Additive." Nor did the auto parts store's computer. Nor did the Amsoil site - 4.4 pints and no note on Limited Slip Additive for the 2007. If different, I wonder why the change for 2008.
Thanks, but the 2007 (and the truck's manual) does not call for ant-slip additive. I understand the 2008 does.
