04 Pacifica Transmission Cooler
ORIGINAL: WpgGlen
I have an 04 Pac all wheel drive with a 3.5L engine. Does this come with an transmission cooler that is suitable for towing a 2500lb tent trailer?

I just went througha month of gettingthe proper hitch setup to tow a trailer that is 2100lbs. empty and 3500 with my two motorcycles inside.
TheMopar hitch that is pictured in the accessories pages and on the Chrysler website and everywhere else shows an installed hitch which has a 2" square receiving mount flush with the bumper fascia and is hidden perfectly. This hitch has been superseded by an inferior designed unit that now aims the receiving hole downward. You then need to purchase a 90 degree adapter that fits like sh*t. It also places the receiving hole a few inches lower and the hitch ball will now be hanging about 12 inches out from the bumper. If you try to use a weight distribution device, it will place the ball out another 8"-10" out. This is the worst set up I have ever seen. DoNOTaccept this set up from your dealer!
I hunted around at Chrysler dealers to find the older (original) designed hitch as pictured everywhere and I found one. I was lucky and I have to say it worked perfectly. Why Chrysler decided to discontinue this is ridiculous. Go to a Reese/DrawTite dealer that specializes in hitches and have them set you up with a weight distribution device and electric brake controller and your Pacifica will tow it beautifully. You will also want to use the auto stick for shifting.
I just towed my trailer empty from North Virginia to Central Massachusetts with no problems.
If you have any other questions, shoot. I have learned more that I cared to about Pacifica's and towing these past weeks.
I have a 2007 so not the exact model/engine/trani you have, but was told by multiple dealers that they DO NOT have the transmission cooler installed. I got a quote of about $500 to have one put on a 2007 4.0L AWD 6-speed. I have not done it yet, as I do not need the weight capacity at this time.
I'll throw my .02 in the pot and give you my opinion. If it was me, I wouldn't hesitate to throw an external trans cooler in front of the condenser. As 2500# may not sound like much, it will certainly make the trans temp shoot up and will reduce the life of it. That baby will be working, especially up any inclines. If you have the knowledge and skill, you can put one in for about $50 and an hour of your time. If you are not a wrench turner, and I don't mean to offend, then you can have it installed as ssstw1 mentions. Think of it as an insurance policy - a lot cheaper than a trans rebuild.
Also ssstw1 is sort of correct wrt having a trans cooler. They all have the standard bottom of the radiator cooler but they do not have an external cooler.
Good luck in whichever you decide.

Unforunately, every year Chrysler cut a little bit more off the standard features of the Pacificias. I read somewhere that a focus group told them that the cars cost too much money so they kept cutting features. to get the baseline down.
