Default 05 3.5L Smokes on startup

Hey All, I'm "out of the loop". Havn't turned wrench in 9 years-my 05 Pac. is smoking on startup (looks like i'm fogging for mosqitoes)and using more oil than "I would like" it to. Just wondering if anyone has started to notice this trend in more 3.5L yet? Could itbe valve seals or are the guides getting worn?

Yeh, my guess would be the valve seals. but man you only
got 47k miles, that should not be happening with that low mileage. you could try a quart of lucas, that might slow the oil consumption, but it won't fix the problem.

Do you have an extended warranty? I hope so because this should not be happening at 47K. Did you noticed anything in the past that could have led up to this; low oil, funny sound etc.?

gbeach, I had a 1987 Monte Carlo SS w/low miles that did the same thing Local service mgr is going to check w/Chry. on Wed-doesn't look to hard once one gets the upper intake out of the way.

PacificaBus, only noticed a slight tick-checked the oil and found it 3.5 quarts low. Vehicle sits most of the time, we use it for long trips and weekend runs to town. I may get my borescope down the holes and check it out this weekend. Changed oil tonight and motor is not leaking a drop, undercarriage is dry as a bone.

Thanks guys for your help!
Sounds as if I might be one of the lucky few to have this problem [8D]

good luck, I am with pacificabus, that should not be happening at only 47k. Hope it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. did you buy it brand new, or from someone else. I am thinking you did not buy this new.

gbeach, I'm second owner. Was going to check out service manual at dealer and see if I can repair myself (need to see what special tools needed). My luck the guides are going to be toast.
