check out these auction listings on Ebay. Still a chunk of change, but I'm sure less than the dealer parts desk. Looked at one of the auctions and it indicates that the AD amp is a replacement for your AE, but I would independently confirm that. If you went aftermarket you would have wiring issues to deal with - not insurmountable mind you. If you are interested in aftermarket crutchfield is a good info source.
