Default Adding video to a 2007

I've got a 2007 Touring with the in-dash six disc changer, but no video screen. I've been pricing the Chrysler Accessory add-on LCD screen. Best deal I've come across so far is this:
http://beavertonchrysler.oemdealer.c..._510_25731.php

I've also come across several 2004-2006 set-ups on Ebay priced significantly less.

The only obvious difference I can see is the new LCD screens are 8" (vs 7"). Anybody have further insight on this?

I've also investigated some aftermarket solutions, but no one seems to make a good adaptor to interface to the factory DVD player, plus most of the video screens I've found aren't cheap,On top of that, I'd still need the factory remote and IR headphones. Consequently, I'm leaning towards the factory set-up.

Anything in particular I need to know about installing the factory set-up? The instructions seem pretty straightforward.

EDIT: Just did a search and answered some of my own questions. 2007-up has the IR transmitter with the screen. No, there doesn't seem to be a good budget friendly aftermarket solution for adding a screen.

Well, as far as the aftermarket option goes I've heard of some splicing into where the OEM harness would hook up and being able to hook up pretty much anything they want. Look for a wiring schematic and you'll see it's possible.

You can tap into the factory harness for video only. The IR headphones are still required, and any decent aftermarket monitor will cost $300-$400.

The aftermarket route just doesn't seem to be cost effective.

Don't the headphones work off the DVD player itself? That's what I thought and you can get some pretty good monitors for way cheaper than that. I'm not trying to sway you in any direction just trying to give you some options that I have read about. Whatever you choose, good luck and Happy New Year!

As I understand, to 2007-08 set-up sends the audio signal through an IRconduit on the factory harness. The IR transmitter is located in the monitor housing. There may be an IR transmitter on the head unit as well. There is no other headphone outlet. No place to just plug in a regular set of headphones.

From what I've seen, any drop down or headrest monitor set-up will run at least $300.

Try this link:

I know that these are headrest monitors (not exactly what you're looking for) but what a great deal!

This place has very good deals on some good product.

You are 100% correct. My 04 works the same way. There is no transmitter in the player with the IR system, its up at the monitor. This causes a lot of confusion for owners who try to add factory components or get factory replacements. You have to know what you have be it IR or RF.
