Battery cables.
Replaced the starter in a 2007 Pacifica. Total pain. Old starter came out easy enough once I removed the O2 Sensor that was so close to the motor mount I had to unbolt the motor mount and jack up the motor to get the socket on it. Had to completely remove the motor mount from the vehicle and the heat shield to get the new one end just to find out I still had the same problem. Removed the starter, hooked the wires back up, used jumper cable to ground it. Turned key. Starter turned over. Reinstalled it. Wouldn't turn over. Just clicked. Eventually I discovered it wasn't getting 12 volts to the starter. The battery was putting out plenty of voltage. Upon further examination I discover the battery is putting out 12 volts but when I checked the terminal clamp it was ready 6 volts. Brand new terminal. Battery post is clean. No corrosion. As soon as I pulled the two cables out of the terminal the terminal read 12 volts. If I run a jumper cable from the starter to the positive side of the battery and a jumper wire from the terminal the starter wire goes to and touch it to the positive on the battery the engine turns over. Working on trying to figure out the positive cables right now. Mechanic told me one goes straight to the fuse box. If the other one goes straight to the starter it's taking the scenic route. Any ideas on what the problem might be?
