My Pacifica is the 2005 base model with the 3.8 litre V6. Is this one known to have defective EGR valves ??
For the last almost 10,000 miles the check engine light has been on and off periodically. I have my own scan
tool and I am getting 2 codes - P404 and P404pd. I have not taken the car to any dealers because its
always a bad experience ! They techs do not seem to be properly trained at all !
Current mileage on mine is 45,700. Last 8 digits of my VIN are 5R422872. Do I have an 8 year 80,000
mile emission warranty or some other extended warranty that covers the EGR system ??
I don't know if this is related or not but, the first time the EGR code came up was at 36,599. At 35,089
the dealer did a software update to my car. Just makes me wonder if theres a connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can picture that motor in my head. Is your EGR valve right next to the alternator, or is that the 3.3 I'm thinking about, the ones with the valve close to the alternator have lots of issues. Also if the code is for no/low flow, you may want to check your EGR passages, to make sure they are plugged up as well

 

The 3.3 V6 has the EGR valve mounted on the front cylinder head next to the altenator. On my 3.8 litre Pacifica the EGR valve is mounted on the REAR cylinder head. I understand what you say about the valve itself or the tube that goes to the top of the intake manifold becoming clogged and limiting flow. I do wonder though if this is covered by the vehicle emission warranty since the EGR system is an emission component. Also I wonder if the fact that the engine has "burned" oil since day 1 (about 1 quart every 2500 miles) has contributed to this problem.
