Default fuel reading??

I have a 2004 Pac and all of a sudden my fuel gauge started going down to empty. It's done it about 5 times in the last 2 weeks. It last happened on saturday. I just filled up and start driving along, when I get this beeping tone and the gauge falls to empty. Then all of a sudden it goes back to where it should be.

I did a search, and read something about the sending unit? Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't had a recall done, but don't know if the previous owner did. I bought this used. I don't know the vin off the top of my head. I'll have to get if for you later.

Default RE: fuel reading??

I have owned my 2004 Pacifica since Nov. 2003. I have had major problems with the fuel gauge dropping off. Last summer the local dealership had my car for over a month trying to figure out what was wrong with it; it had around 43,000 miles on it at the time. There are two fuel modules in the split tank. I have had it in the dealership three additional times since then for them to replace the fuel sending units. It is due back again this week because it dropped off on me 2 1/2 weeks ago, but they cannot do readings on the voltage with a full tank of gas. So am running down below 1/2 tank. It seems to drop off between 1/4 and 1/2 tank. It left me dead in the water on the highway one day when both sending units died. Scary situation. Thinking seriously about getting rid of this car because the dealership cannot fix the problem for good. Any ideas????

I just has this done! the dealer said it was a sofware problem and told me they updated the Pacifica software/firmware.

They charge me $65 to do this!!!

If this was a recall should I have been charge?

a recall is free give me the last 8 of the vin and I can see if it was under it but I would assume that they checked that already.

I have that same problem with my 04 Pacifica.. never had a recall done , in fact no one ever said anything about a recall. I had it to a dealer but it was too expensive at the time to fix it. If there is a recall and I can get it fixed that would be great. Its doing it all the time now. Starts at about 1/2 tank. The last 8 of my VIN is ... 24R551926 OK Last 9.
