Liftgate issues, Exterior Liftgate Handle not working.

Liftgate issues, Exterior Liftgate Handle not working.
The liftgate wasn't working so I switched out the actuator on the liftgate. It is now working perfectly via the remote and inside but the exterior handle isn't working at all.
Prior to changing out the lock actuator assembly the exterior handle worked. What could this be?
