Default Lower control arms

I am hearing a loud creaking sound comming from my front end when I turn the wheel or going down a bumpy road. When I place my hand on what I think is the lower control arm and turn the wheel, I can hear the creaking sound and feel the vibration at the conncetion where the arm meets the chassis (acircular connector with a giant bolt running though it). Can this connection be lubed on both sides of the car to stop the noiseor will that mess it up?

Thanks
