Default 3.5L motor/tranny issues....Feedback please

Looking at an '04 w/ 48,5k. I'm hearing from some others that the 3.5 has had probs with oil pump failure/narrow oil journals that clog up, causing spun bearings & engine seizure. Is this motor the same 3.5 that's in the Intrepid, that I hear there were so many issues with?

Also hearing the tranny's are notorious for going bad before 100k, and that there are recalls issued for starter problems (car sporadically won't start....even when new)

Any truth to either of these things? Thanx in advance for your feedback!

Have to agree with Chrysler tech. You are thinking of a different engine. This engine has been around since 93 and has been bullet proof for Chrysler. Early ones had water pump problem, but that was corrected in 98 when the block when from cast iron to aluminum. True,Chrysler has had their fair share of trans problems, but that too has for the most part been corrected a few years ago. With Chrysler transmissions, you must use the proper fluid and that is ATF+4.

The engine that Fonzie may thinking about is the 2.4 L in the PT. The crankshaft are walking in the block, causing the front oil seal from the oil pump to leak. Also stratus body too, with the 2.4 L.
