I want to use a car top carrier and really do not want to purchase the OEM cross rails to be able to do so. There are lots of nice carriers that you can thread the straps through the car and secure them and that is OK by me. However, could I just loosen the hex nuts a little that secure the rail guides that run front to back a little, slip the straps through and tighten them back down? Get what I'm saying? Just wondering what the cons may be to doing this.
