Default Oil Capacity

I have a 2007 4.0L Pac. In checking the manual for oil capacity it shows 5.5 quarts and makes no mention of filter capacity. When I changed oil and put in 5.5 quarts with a new filter it checked 1/2 quart low. I called the dealership and was told "ya it usually takes about 6 quarts". Well, what the hell, doesn't Chrysler know how much oil we are supposed to put in with a filter? I put in another 1/2 quart and guess what? It's now right on the full mark. Good Grief!!!!

the 4.L engine takes 5.5 quarts. In adding the extra 1/2 quart it is overfilled. Your dipstick sounds like mine, slightly off the mark. Chrysler does indeed know what the amount required to fill it up is. I too have had the same situation, but the dealer I use is # 1 and has earned my trust.
Just for the heck of it what kind of mpg are you getting? Any problems?

Default RE: Oil Capacity

On a recent trip the mileage checked out at 24 at interstate speeds. Locally it's doing 18 to 19. We are driving from South Dakota to Texas next week and I think when the engine gets some miles on it (currently only 2,800) and we get to warmer climates it will do slightly better. Also, I use ethanol and that will get slightly less mileage that regular gas. I have experienced no problems to date that needed adjustment. Thank you for your comments.

The part they didn't tell you about was it takes half a quart to lube the filter. So the reason why it looks low is because there is a half a quart in the filter.
