Default Power Liftgate

About a year ago I had a very bad experince with the dealer over the power liftgate. I was told the optical sensor needs to be replace for the power liftgate to work. When I push the remote and /or the button in the car the latch releases and it beeps but it will not open(if closed) and will not close (if opened).

Are you just sharing this information, or is there a particular response you are looking for??

What year is your Pacifica? I know there is a pressure sensor tube that runs inside the pinch area of the liftgate 'shocks' to stop closing on a hand, but didn't think there was an optical sensor. Is it just the button on the key that doesn't operate the liftgate, or the interior button too?

Sorry for the confusion I was asking for help and/or information. I was told there is an LED optical sensor that must be replace for the power liftgate to work. I was told the part is $35 but the labor is about $300. At the time the vehicle was under warranty but according to the dealer the part was not covered. So I want to know if there is an optical sensor that controls the power liftgate, and what else might be causing the power liftgate problems.
Summary:
If the power liftgate is closed and I push the button or the remote I hear the latch releasing and I hear the beeping sound but the door will not open (I can open the door manually).
If the power liftgate is open when it feels like closing it will about 5% of the time. I hear the beeping but nothing happens.

Any comment or help would be appreciated.

I have an 2004 model purchased in July 2003. I am refering to the button on the overhead console and the key fob. Two diffferent buttons, but the power liftgate will not work with any one of them.

I'm having what sounds like the exact same issue with my 2004 Pacifica. In fact, i took it in to the dealer today for repair. The car is still under warranty and after reading your story, i'm pretty interested what they'll say. I'll post again when i hear back. The guy at the service desk said that he's seen this more than once....
