Default Questions about my pacifica

Thanks for your forum....just bought my wife an 07 Pacifica Touring this week. She loves it. I have a few questions:

1) The car only came with one key. I am assuming this is a dealer only item? Approximate price?
2) Do all Pacificas have the integrated side rails for a luggage rack? Mine appears to. If so, all I need to buy is the cross bars, right?
3) Does Chrysler make an accessory to add a tag on the front? Mine doesn't seem to have the mounting holes for one.
4) My wife wants a cargo area cover; I saw pictures on the web with the 3rd row seats flat, but what do you do with the cover if you have to use the 3rd row seat? WIll it adjust to just cover the smaller cargo area?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.

I'll take a stab here..

1. Gets expesnsive, dealer can do it maybe $150 but I have not done it, only heard from others. I have heard that you need both keys to make a spare. Not sure if this is true. I have seen keys on ebay but I don't know if they are any good or not. Maybe someone can chime in here. Chryslertech... you out there?

2. I believe they have the rails. They make regular cross bars and sport bars. Check ebay and Chryslerpartspeople.com
3. By tag you mean license plate? They make a mount, your bumper might have to be drilled. Not sure if this is called and accessroy but thedealer should just give you one.
4. Our cargo cover in our 04 has two mounting areas... up front when seats are down, and in the rear when seats are up. Like you said.. covers small area when seats are up.

The dealer can make new keys from just the vin number. You have to have two keys to make a copy at a locksmith. My wife only got one key with hers from the used car lot. We asked the Chrysler dealer and they said that they can do it. I think the $150 is close, don't remember exactly.

Just some clarification. If you have two programmed transponder keys... which are usually the ones with the lock controls etc. ..... you can then program your own keys using the vehicle. The instructions are easy and available on the net & in your owners manual. Blank transponder keys ( just a key with a"fat head" )can be had for $10. to $15. on Ebay ( where I got mine ). You get them cut at the hardware store & program them yourself.

wyckoffcryslerparts.com has the rails and other factory parts.

There are dimples on the front bumper showing were the plate goes. A direct mount looks MUCH better than using the plastic mount things available. ( Been there ...done that )

The Touring came with a cargo cover and is probably available to order. I'd start by calling junk yards looking for the correct color.

These are the instructions from a site on Ebay.
1. Insert one of the pre-programmed transponder keys into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to the ON position.
2. The key should remain in the ON position for 5 seconds but not more then 15 seconds before you turn it back to the OFF position.
3. Within 10 seconds, insert the second pre-programed transponder key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to the ON position. The VTSS(Vehicle Theft Security System) or Sentry Key Immobilizer System lamp (depending on model ) should start to flash. This along with a audible tone will indicate to you that the system has entered the "Customer Learn" programming mode.
4. Within 45 seconds, turn the switch to the OFF position. Insert the new transponder key and turn the switch to the ON position. After approximately 10 seconds an audible tone will sound and the Indicator lamp will stay illuminated for 3 seconds. This will be your acknowledgement that you have successfully programmed in the new transponder key.
5. To add additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 4.
And this is the source

One thing I forgot to mention. The dealer can re-program your car so that the origianl keys won't work any more. Our problem was that we got our Pacifica at a used car lot with only one key. This meant to me that the origianl owner may still have a key to my car. Their key will still go in and turn, but it will not start now because the dealer reprogramed the car for me.

If you buy your car from an individual and only get one key, go to the dealer and get this done.
