Hello, I recently purchased a 2007 Pac AWD Ltd with 108k on the clock. As soon as I had purchased I noticed a knock or thump when the engine is cranked at the point it starts. I would say I can even feel an impact underneath the car below the centre console area. I did lots of research before purchase and checked for the usual faults. I visually checked the motor mounts as best I could and did the foot on the brake, rev engine to see if it moves test, which to my untrained eye seemed fine. Perhaps a separate issue but when idling after running for more than an hour there is a rattling noise also coming from the front, when in D or N but not P.

Thoughts and ideas welcome before I shell out at the garage...

Check to see if the exhaust pipe or muffler or catalytic converter is banging on something.
