Please help: 2002 PT Cruiser Stuck in 1st Gear
I own a 2002 PT Cruiser Touring with automatic transmission. It currently has 93K miles. While my son was driving this week, he noticed that the car occasionally jerked as he increased speeds above 15-20 mph. He checked the level of the transmission fluid, and noticed it was slightly low. He added some fluid. The occasional jerking continued and the speedometer needle also would sporadically go from low(0-10mph) to ~45 mph. The check engine light then came on the dash. Code P1698 showed when checked. This code means a faulty transmission control module. Will a faulty transmission control module cause the car to stay in 1st gear? Is there anything else that can cause code P1698? I would appreciate any assistance. I'm a single mother trying to help my son who is in college. Thank you in advance!
