Sorry for the confusion, but I think my intended ? got over looked, I completely understand that the abs isn't the primary system, otherwise we couldn't discontinue it by pulling the fuse, and still use the brakes. I pulled the abs fuse, only to have to car not turn over to start, but when I reinstall the fuse, the car starts, working on the abs/braking system isn't one of my strong points.

I agree with Rebel59 the ABS isn't related to your original fault, butto get it out of the way with the lamp illuminated have you tried pulling the relay out instead of the fuse?

I can't remember which way round it was with the fuse / relay, but I had a problem with the ABS being WAY too eager to activate, so barely had any brakes, so "turned it off" to be able to drive it
