Exclamation 05 T&C 3.8 - P0731, P0732, P0733 - time to give up??

Hi all,

This beast has 344,000 miles on it - yeah, you read that right. 344k

The engine was replaced @ 212k in Nov of 2014, so the engine only has 132k on it.

Aside from when the engine was replaced, nothing has ever been done to the transmission to my knowledge (we're the second owner, and there were no transmission service records from the first owner). My history with transmissions (right or wrong) has been to leave them alone....

Side note - not sure if this is related or not, but recently, driving down the road, the vehicle would shudder very breifly, and then be fine - (not like a misfire - I know exactly what that is). It has progressively gotten worse (more often and for a few seconds longer).

Aside from the above, it has been fine....that is, until last night, when my wife called and said that the car was "whining" and not going when she stepped on the gas. I'm guessing that was limp mode, though I've never experienced it before in that car.

She was fortunately close to home and able to make it. I then drove it around the block and sure enough, I barely was able to get around the block. However, reverse seemed to work just fine.

I got in it this morning and pulled the codes (via Torque on my Android tablet), and it only pulled the following:

P0731 Gear 1 Incorrect ratio
P0732 Gear 2 Incorrect ratio
P0733 Gear 3 Incorrect ratio

I checked the trans fluid (hot - shifted slowly through all gears, left it running in park) and it is nice and pink, and does not seem to have a smell....however, the level seems to be higher than the high mark, which I find odd. (Yes, the vehicle is level)

What would be your next steps if this were your car?

Thanks!

Jonboy

Like you, I know very littlr about auto boxes. I have dropped the sum and replaced the filter and fluid on one of my GV's but other than that I leave it alone. With the mileage yours has done and the problems you are experiencing, if it was me I would drop the sump and look for metallic bits in the bottom. It could be in need of a replacement box or a re-build.

Thanks for the input, Alan.

Does anyone else here have anything to add?

Thanks,

Jonboy
