08 T&C 4.0 starts ok, but dies shifting to Drive.

Default 08 T&C 4.0 starts ok, but dies shifting to Drive.
It shifts into Reverse and drives as normal, but dies when shifting to Drive. No problem restarting engine. Chrysler mechanic friend says it throws no codes and he is mystified why this is happening. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
