Default Rear ves problem solved 2012

I tried the changing the ribbon thing and followed the links to eBay and it worked! My kids are happily enjoying the rear screen now! We were so
nummed because we just bought this 2012 and it didn’t work right away! So
glad it was only a $17 fix!!

here’s the one we bought :https://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-2009-2...-/163449699031

Default Ribbon needs 2 b replaced

Ok sooo. I googled the heck outta this problem as I am also having the same issue & only thing that is wrong is that the ribbon needs to be replaced which takes 60-90 mins to do on your own. It is a diy project they said... & idk how much the ribbons cost.
my DVD wasn't working and would only work if I hit the screen and then it stopped working even tho I hit the screen it would turn on but would have split screen and say 1 on left side and 2 on other side. Sooo just replace the ribbon your self and bam your good to go. But if it's different problem I can't help you.

TSB #08-027-07

SUBJECT:
Flash: VES (Over Head Video Screen) Is Not Powering ON

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
VES (Over Head Video Screen) is not powering ON; but VES is active on the bus and is responding to all the diagnostic commands with StarSCAN® or StarMOBILE.

This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Video Entertainment System (VES) with new software.

While its very difficult to say whether or not this TSB applies to your vehicle issue as this TSB doesn't describe your concern exactly as you do but I hope that this may help you or another forum member.

I would suggest having your local dealer diagnose this issue to verify whether or not a software update is needed or not.

Good luck on getting this issue resolved!
I think your front monitor has a broken cable and when you open it it disconnects that brake when you close it and reconnect it so that's what's doing the issue you're having
