1999 T&C - Multiple codes - transmission
Evening everyone. I'm looking for some guidance with my van, but first the basics:
- a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country LXi with the 3.8l.
- 108K miles
- Transmission rebuilt around 95K miles
- Van sat for about 1.5 years due to brake system issue
- has been back in operation for about 2000 miles.
Driving to work yesterday the check engine light came on but ran fine. Today the tranny seemed to slip a bit, then almost gave up completely. Now it will drive but will not shift out of first gear. While driving there is a high pitch whine - much like a pump with no fluid.
Hooking up the code reader displays the following codes and my cryptic interpretation (listed in order):
P0740 - torque converter
P0734 - 4th gear
P1782 - 2-4 Pressure sensor circuit
P0732 - 2nd gear
P0733 - 3rd gear
P0700 - Transmission circuit failure
I've checked the basic things like fluid level - it is good. BUT - the fluid has almost a brownish tinge to it.
I'd be willing to put a few bucks into fixing it, but don't want to throw good money after bad. Any thoughts on the issue would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Doug
I also posted this on the dodge forums - hoping to reach a wide audience!
