Default 1999 t&c starter solenoid

1999 town and country ...starter solenoid cliks when key is turned....my understanding is that the start and solenoid are all one piece...and both need to be replaced if the other goes.....i think the problem is the solenoid .. has anyone rebuilt the solenoid only? i will try to take all apart once i get it out....but would love some input...i would like to fix the solenoid to save a few dollars... thank you

It's not the solinoid, it is the contacts that wear out. You can remove the contacts, clean them up till they are shiney, reassemble, your starter will be good as new again.

thanks for your response....i guess i couldve been more clear....the contacts need to be cleaned or replaced....i was just refferring to the solenoidas one piece . ive done many chevys in the past and it was cheap to buy a whole new solenoid....

or is the chrysler different.....im expecting it is just a better looking chevy starter/solenoid setup......meaning ....works exactly the same...

can i buy new contacts for the chrysler solenoid? i presume they would be a hell of lot cheaper....or like you said.....just clean and replace.....but that depends on how easy it is to remove the starter.....

i used to be able to re an re a starter for a chevy pickup at a traffic light.....lol kidding =)

thanks for taking the time
