I just added a bottle or Redex Diesel injector cleaner into tank with £40 fuel the other day, why, cos, I got it many years ago, like 10+ years. Using it because my car just passed MOT with an advisory on Emissions.
Right enough up till then there was a bit of fumes from the exhaust on start up so I'm monitoring to see if there's any difference with the cleaner.

I'm on a vegetable oil/Biodiesel forum where theres a great spirit of sharing and helping each other out.

I'm sure I've seen a similar spirit on here with diagnostics ect.

When i bought the tool, it was something like £350 and I'd had a big bill fixing a timing belt failure. I hired it out a few times, and made my money back.

Now? If anyones wanting it, I'll send it for the cost of postage (probably about a tenner). I've the timing tool as well if required.

All i'd ask is when you're finished with it, it's either returned to me, or passed onto another forum member that needs it.

I will take that please mate. Let me know how you want the postage paid please?

HiYa Goggsy,

Redex is essentially paraffin. Top quality aero engine paraffin used in turbines [Jet-A1] is about 90p a litre. The only known way to clean injectors is to get an expert who knows what they are doing to remove and service them. Any of the available super diesels [cetane] on the forecourts will do better than pour in products. At 10 years old you can't lose anything, but I think ragging the arras off it for 20 minutes will do more good and last longer.

Re. cleaning injectors, I understand nowadays the pros. use an ultrasonic cleaner to get everything off the pintle area. As it's a mechanical way of cleaning (despite its sophistication) it will remove hard burnt-on carbon by shattering it at a microscopic level. Otherwise, as our Qinteq says, a good high-rev. burnup is the only avenue open to us.

A good "Italian" tune up on a long steep hill does work wonders for any oil burner engine. The problem with most GV is they are used mostly in town and for school runs like ours is! So a long Motorway run does get the engine and CAT nice and hot to burn off the crap.

Making a Diesel run cleaner is difficult at the best of times, I used to work on Heavy Commercials, and Coaches, we run two identical engined coaches over a planed 18 months with as best as we could get continental Driving with two very similar drivers, one we added the recommended amount of fuel additive cleaner as recommended by our Commercial Oil Provider, on every fill, (the drivers were provided with instructions of how much to add pro rata on how much the fill was) half way through the test we changed drivers from one vehicle to the other, to try to keep the test as fair as possible, the test was bought to a premature end at 14 months due to the additive buggering up one of the pumps, we thought it was just a general break down till we received the report from the pump people, during the time there was no noticeable improvement from the vehicle with the additive, except from one hell of a rebuild bill. so for our purposes the fuel additive cost us dearly. For purposes of the annual mot we used to take them down the motorway to clear them out first.

When I moved to smaller Diesels I bumpt into EGR valves, horrid nasty things, who wants to run on their own farts?? I have a Diesel 2.5CRD Voyager I have cut the vac pipe from the servo, cut a piece of spill pipe pushed a ball bearing up through the spill pipe to centre and joined the cut pipe with it, thus cutting off the vac to the EGR actuation valve, no more EGR the engine is a lot smoother power is getting better and everything seems a lot happier, I will let you know how it goes.
