Default 2.5 CRD thermostat

Following up from the thread from Leedsman...

I fitted a thermostat into the top hose of my 2001 2.5CRD as the original has been jammed open for 3 yrs now.

Confirm that a Renault 5 thermostat fits just great directly in the top hose without any mods at all, just hold it with a jubilee clip. Ten minutes start to finish.

I drilled a tiny 1.5mm hole in the stat to clear any air locks behind the wax pellet.

Warms up in an instant and regulates at half way on the gauge.... brilliant modification for less than £5 :-)

Also this same thermostat mod is popular with rover 75 diesels & also vauxhall vectra & astra diesels with the same thermostat problems.

Mat

Glad you're pleased Macgriff, you should have some improvement in fuel consumption now. Cold diesels have much more engine friction. More heater power too with correct temp.

I travel in Rhodes not on roads in the cold weather since my mod and yes I drilled 3 @ a third 1/16th by-pass holes for air-lock and 'belt'n'braces by-pass.

Lucky man, I bet you don't need a thermostat over there.
